This is Part 1 of a series called “The Album”. In each country, I made a playlist of songs; a worship song I found, a memory, really anything. This is my playlist from Training Camp and Florida Ministry.
“Upside Down” by Jack Johnson
our squad loves music. our squad loves playing music. our squad specifically likes playing this song on the guitar. all the time.
“Pizza Angel” by Veggietales
when in Florida, there was one morning after breakfast were we kept playing Veggietales music with the kids on base.
“In a Crowd of Thousands” by Derek Klena and Christy Altomare
me and my fellow theater kid, Noah Olson, gave a beautiful rendition of this showtune on the doing deck one day. my voice was completely gone so Noah carried the vocals. but i still gave face;)
“Astrovan” by Mt. Joy
a new song that was playing the first time we went to domestic ministry.
“Tickle Monster” by Vanessa Trien
the CGA boys taught this to our guys. we will never forget the horrors this song brings. the first three notes will send you running.
“Evangeline” by Steven Sanchez
every shower time on campus this song would come up in my shuffle. it’s great to listen to in the morning before sunrise and in the evening before bed.
“Thneedville” by The Lorax Singers
on travel day from Florida, this was Kailey’s alarm. i loved it.
“I’m Just Ken” by Ryan Gosling
somewhere out there, there is a video of me performing this whole song, choreography and all.
“Bewitched” by Laufey
this beautiful song truly touched my heart during this time at training camp.
“Can’t Outrisk” by Ocean and the Ghost
recommended by my leader the amazing Kara Grace
“Worthy of It All” by Christ For The Nations Worship
during one of the revival nights, this song was playing and the Lord just flooded my heart with scripture in Isaiah. i wrote the verse on my leg because i didn’t have my notebook.
“Liz On Top Of The World” by Dario Marianelli
when the boys had Man Hike, the girls got to stay cozy indoors and watch Pride and Prejudice. we all lost our minds during the Hand Flex scene and sighed during “how are you this evening, Mrs. Darcy?”
“I Want It That Way” by Backstreet Boys
for squad wars, i rewrote the lyrics to say “We want it His way” and choreographed a dance to it. sadly we didn’t win but we still backflipped and rapped like you have never seen.
“Kingdom Dance” by Alan Menken
before our very first beauty for ashes event, all the girls were dressed up and feeling pretty. we turned on this song and just pranced around the deck and laughed. it was a beautiful memory.
“New Wine” by Hillsong Worship
days before i broke my foot, i was creating a dance to this song which i have always loved. when i broke my foot, i meditated on the lyrics and pray that the Lord would make me new in this season.
So fun!! I love reading the story behind each song. And what a great way to keep track of the many special little memories from this adventure!!
