This is Part 2 of a series called “The Album”. This is my playlist from Guatemala .

“Come As You Are” by Crowder

having a broken foot is awful when you love to dance. I was mourning the fact that I couldn’t praise in a way I so loved to do. one night in Guatemala, I started swaying to this song and moving my arms very slowly. I started to dance very carefully and just be before the Lord even when I felt broken.

“Sweeney Todd” Original Broadway Cast Recording

you can take the girl out of theater but never take the theater out of the girl. this album become my new obsession during Guatemala and I would sing all part of the Quartet after ministry days. my team “loved” it.

“Soldier, Poet, King” by The Oh Hellos

this song became my favorite one to listen to driving back from ministry. from the back of a truck, driving high speed and the sun setting over the mountains, this song felt like all the possibilities of the day were coming together.

“Backstreet Driver” by Toby Mac

Chicho, one of our best friends in Guatemala, drives crazy. and he drives even crazier when we play fun music. this song went crazy will driving up a mountain with winding roads. I was praying for protection the whole time but still singing.

“YEAH!” by Usher, Lil Jon, and Ludacris

this is one of my squad mate’s, Hannah, favorite songs. so when we went to go get tattoos in Antigua, I made sure it was queued up for a long Chicken Bus ride.

“Wow, I’m Not Crazy” by AJR

Abby and I would sometimes have both our airpods in driving back from ministry. but on some off days, she’d play her music out loud. and this song was so fun to listen to together cause we would get really into it.

“Now That We Don’t Talk” by Taylor Swift

when Taylor drops a re-recording, you now that the girls on the squad will be playing it nonstop.

“Pocket Full of Sunshine” by Natasha Bedingfield

at the end of long ministry days, you would expect everyone to be exhausted and not wanting to speak. not Elise. I would still belt this song out in the van and Manuel, our driver, would laugh and tell me to take a nap.

“Praise” by Elevation Worship

our squad loves this song. even during Training Camp we would yell this song. our last day of ministry in Guatemala, we did outdoor worship in a crowded park in Antigua. at one point in that song there’s a call and response and I somehow ended up leading it. the Lord used my volume and energy to share His glory and praise Him.

“Child of the King” by Mike Teezy

you can thank Arwyn for this one. this song was so fun for her to introduce me to. and I seriously recommend that you give it a listen

LEMME TELLYA by planetboom

in the truck, Chako, our host, and I would share fun worship with each other. this one was straight stelar when he first played it. it made driving the bumpy roads of Prayer Mountain more enjoyable.

“Missionary Anthem” by YWAM Kona Music

I am sorry Chicho for all the times me and my team yelled “WE HAVE TO GO!” but let’s be honest, you miss us. this song still takes me back to listening to this in the car with Chicho and almost dying while driving backwards down a hillside town.
